Strawberry Fields Revisited- Tribute To John Lennon

JOHN Lennon’s son Sean admits he’s scared of fame

JOHN Lennon’s son Sean admits he’s scared of fame.
“I have a fear of fame, as my therapist would tell you,” said the 35-year-old.
“But I’m a musician, first and foremost.”
Sean says people are sometimes baffled by his resemblance to the late Beatle, who was murdered when Sean was only five.
“I look like my dad,” he says. “I remember someone saying I was trying to look like my dad because I was wearing glasses. Can you believe that? I’m blind without them. People look at me and they see my dad. They think I’m trying to be famous or something, which is completely misguided.
“Ultimately people seem to think that being John Lennon’s son is a huge weight around my neck but they don’t consider for a second how inspiring that might be and how proud I am to have this name.”
Meanwhile, the gold-braided military band jacket John wore in an iconic 1966 Life magazine photo shoot sold at auction for $240,000.
Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills estimated the jacket was worth $150,000 to $200,000, according to the New York Post.

Internationally acclaimed Beatles Artist to show in Oak Park gallery

SHANNON, internationally regarded as "The World's Greatest Beatles Artist" by admirers, celebrities, journalists and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, will hold her premiere Chicago gallery exhibition at Wonderwall Music Shoppe & Emporium, Oak Park Illinois, with an exhibition entitled "And Your Bird Can Sing."

This exhibition of 10 stunning, photorealist images of the Beatles are packed with a visual precision and energy that go beyond description and expectations of the medium and the genre. They are paintings that are mistaken as photographs.

Included in the exhibition is SHANNON's larger than life portrayal of John Lennon as we remember seeing him sing "Help" from the opening scene in the 1965 movie, "Help". Lennon's face is in black and white just like the original segment of the film...but SHANNON's twist is to juxtapose Lennon against a yellow background filled with the scribbled song lyrics as if by the Beatle himself. SHANNON has captured what was a brief moment in our past and turned it into an image that is still nostalgic yet now has become something that has a deeper, eternal feeling to it.

The title piece for the exhibition "Anjorbirdcinsing" (And Your Bird Can Sing) portraits an introspective Lennon resting chin to hand on his guitar while a parrot perches on his shoulder. Also on view will be a grouping of the four Beatles in their Sgt. Pepper attire and George Harrison holding a sitar.

The universal popularity and awareness of the Beatles makes this an enjoyable and easily accessible art exhibition for those of all ages and backgrounds.

SHANNON's talent has brought her numerous commissions, prestigious awards and international notoriety in the fields of fine art, illustration, logo design, murals, motorcycle design, book covers, movie posters and more. SHANNON's artwork has been televised on The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Good Morning America, Oprah, Hard Copy and Entertainment Tonight.

John Lennon formed Quarrymen to have fun and impress girls

John Lennon formed Quarrymen to have fun and impress girls

by Katie Hickox, Beatles News Liverpool Reporter

Original Quarrymen members Rod Davis and Colin Hanton gave a talk Tuesday night at the Cavern Club in Liverpool to discuss John Lennon and the Quarrymen. Rod said that playing in the Quarrymen band formed in 1956 by fellow Quarry Bank High School classmate John Lennon, was alot of fun and a great way to impress the girls.

The Quarrymen band originally played skiffle but soon changed to rock n' roll after Paul replaced banjo player Rod Davis soon after John met Paul McCartney at the historic Woolton Garden fete on July 6th, 1957 and Rod had drifted out of the Quarrymen. One by one, the original Quarrymen members like John's best friend Pete Shotton who played a washboard dropped out and as Lennon changed the style of music from skiffle to rock n' roll and so no longer needed instruments like a washboard, a tea-chest base or banjo.
Colin Hanton and Rod Davis at the Cavern

Colin Hanton, who played the drums, stayed with the Quarrymen from 1956 until 1959 and recalls the times he played with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison before John changed the name to the Beatles. Colin played on the original first recording of "In Spite of All the Danger" which appeared on the Beatles Anthology.

Rod Davis says his last gig with the Quarrymen was in fact at the Woolton Garden fete on July 6th, 1957 and that neither he or Colin remember meeting Paul or had any idea of how important that day would be for John Lennon. Rod said that a common misconception is that John made up the words to the song because he forgot the lyrics to "Come Go With Me" they played at the Woolton Garden fete which impressed the young Paul McCartney hearing John sing for the very first time but in fact John and the other band members couldn't afford to buy the record for that song. So the only way to get the lyrics without the record was to listen on the radio and hope that the song might be played at night which was haphazard at best to try to get all the correct lyrics written down especially if the song was only played once, often late at night, if at all on the radio and of course John's Aunt Mimi severely restricted what radio stations was played on the radio. So John might only hear a particular song a few times over a period of months and scramble to write down all the words and ended up missing some of the words and phrases.

Tuesday night Rod brought a guitar and played a few of the original songs performed by the Quarrymen and recruited volunteers from the audience to play the washboard and tea-chest bass, including this author to help play the washboard which isn't as easy as it might first appear!

Most recently the Quarrymen completed a 3 week tour in the United States for a Happy Birthday John! Tour. For more information, go to their website. For more information on the John Lennon Tribute Season special lectures and events planned for November and December, click here.

A Hard Day's Night

A Hard Day's NightThe Fab Four from Liverpool--John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr--in their first movie. Nobody expected A Hard Day's Night to be much more than a quick exploitation of a passing musical fad, but when the film opened it immediately seduced the world--even the stuffiest critics fell over themselves in praise (highbrow Dwight Macdonald called it "not only a gay, spontaneous, inventive comedy but it is also as good cinema as I have seen for a long time"). Wisely, screenwriter Alun Owen based his script on the Beatles' actual celebrity at the time, catching them in the delirious early rush of Beatlemania: eluding rampaging fans, killing time on trains and in hotels, appearing on a TV broadcast. American director Richard Lester, influenced by the freestyle French New Wave and British Goon Show humor, whips up a delightfully upbeat circus of perpetual motion. From the opening scene of the mop tops rushing through a train station mobbed by fans, the movie rarely stops for air. Some of the songs are straightforwardly presented, but others ("Can't Buy Me Love," set to the foursome gamboling around an empty field) soar with ingenuity. Above all, the Beatles express their irresistible personalities: droll, deadpan, infectiously cheeky. Better examples of pure cinematic joy are few and far between. --Robert Horton
